If you want the best EVs to buy in November 2026 without guessing, start with budget. Under $20,000, a used Chevrolet Bolt EV is still the standout. Around $30,000 new, the Chevy Bolt LT, Kia EV3 Light and Nissan LEAF S+ are the cheapest stickers on sale. Above that, Equinox EV, Model 3 and Model Y cover most US shoppers. Prices below are US dollars, with inline links to the sources we used.

One hard change for 2026 buyers: the federal New Clean Vehicle Credit is not available for vehicles acquired after Sept. 30, 2025, per the IRS. The same cutoff applies to the used credit under §25E (IRS used clean vehicle credit). State, local and utility incentives may still help, but they vary by ZIP code.

Under $5K: older Nissan LEAF reality check

Credible inventory under $5,000 is thin. CarGurus LEAF price trends put the 2015 LEAF average around $5,648, and some 2016 listings still land near $5,000 (one recent example sat at $4,994). CarBuzz has also floated ~$5,000 Soul EV and ~$5,500 2017 Leaf as rock-bottom entry points. Treat that tier as a stretch, not a sweet spot: early Leafs used air-cooled packs, CHAdeMO fast charging is fading, and real-world range after a decade can drop well below the original EPA number. If you buy here, demand a battery health report and keep the car for short, predictable trips.

Nissan LEAF, Fiat 500e and Kia Soul EV under $10K

CarGurus’ best used electric cars guide still points budget shoppers to the Kia Soul EV and Nissan LEAF when they need to stay under $10,000. Soul EV examples commonly show up around $8,000–$10,000; 2018–2019 cars with the 30-kWh pack started at 111 miles of EPA range. The Leaf remains the easiest to find. CarGurus’ overall LEAF average sits near $16,330 (recent ~$16,728, down 2.38% over 30 days), but older cars pull the floor down: 2015 averages $5,648 and 2018 averages $10,873 on that same trends page. Visor.vin (Nov 5, 2026) shows a used LEAF average asking price of $14,945 across 1,437 listings.

The Fiat 500e is the fun city option. Recharged’s under-$10K guide puts typical 2013–2019 500e pricing around $6,000–$9,500 with roughly 60–90 miles of realistic range. Tiny rear seats and Level 2-only charging keep it as a second car, not a road-tripper.

Used Bolt EV, BMW i3 and Ioniq Electric under $15K

Crossing into the mid-teens opens better daily drivers. Early Chevrolet Bolt EVs, BMW i3 hatchbacks and Hyundai Ioniq Electric models show up here alongside later Leafs. Recharged lists BMW i3 BEVs (2014–2017) around $8,000–$10,000 with roughly 70–100 miles of realistic range. The Ioniq Electric is less common but efficient when you find a clean example. This band is where many shoppers should start if they want more than neighborhood errands, but still need to stay used.

Chevrolet Bolt EV under $20K: the used-EV star

For most US buyers hunting value, the used Chevrolet Bolt EV is the answer. CarGurus Bolt EV price trends show an overall average around $18,325 (about −1.21% over 30 days). Yearly averages on that page include roughly $13,433 for 2017, $14,989 for 2019, $15,907 for 2020, $18,597 for 2022 and $20,223 for 2023. CarGurus also calls the Bolt the standout bargain under $20,000 in its best used EVs article, with original EPA range up to 259 miles on later cars.

Recharged’s Bolt buying guide (updated Sept. 22, 2026) puts the median sold price at $15,888 across 49 retail sales (average $15,758; range $9,997–$21,849). Its inspected sample averaged 91.1% remaining battery capacity and about 234 miles of tested real-world range. Kelley Blue Book Fair Purchase Price figures for late 2022/2023 Bolts have recently run about $18,650–$20,400 (1LT/2LT), with listings on kbb.com worth checking for your ZIP before you offer.

VW ID.4, early Tesla Model 3 and Niro EV under $25K

Stretch a little and the used market gets roomier. A March 12, 2026 USA TODAY piece citing CarGurus listed average used prices of $21,168 for the Volkswagen ID.4, $22,474 for the Nissan Ariya and $25,014 for the Tesla Model 3. Later Bolts also crowd this band. Kia Niro EV examples often ask around $20,000–$22,000 on CarGurus best-used roundups. The Model 3 average sits right on the $25K line, so shop carefully by year, miles and battery warranty remaining.

New Chevy Bolt LT, Kia EV3 and Nissan LEAF near $30K

Shopping new? The federal credit is gone for cars acquired after Sept. 30, 2025, so sticker price matters more than it did a year ago. Per electriccompare.com’s cheapest EVs list (updated November 4, 2026), the lowest starting MSRPs in the US are:

Tesla Model 3, Model Y and Mach-E from the mid-$30Ks

Once you clear $35,000, the decision shifts from “can I go electric?” to “which shape fits my life?” The Model 3 Standard ($36,990 / 321 mi) and Model Y Standard ($39,990 / 321 mi) still dominate Supercharger-heavy road trips. Ford’s Mustang Mach-E Select RWD ($37,795 / 260 mi) is the crossover alternative with a conventional dash. For what Tesla still has coming, see upcoming Tesla models 2027. Ford’s next wave is covered in upcoming Ford EVs 2027.

Blazer EV, ID.4 Pro, BMW i4 and Rivian R2 above $40K

You do not need every $50,000 EV on the market. Selective picks from the same electriccompare list (Nov 4, 2026): Chevrolet Blazer EV LT FWD at $45,000 / 312 mi, Volkswagen ID.4 Pro at $45,095 / 291 mi, BMW i4 eDrive40 at $57,900 / 333 mi, and Rivian R2 Performance AWD at $57,990 / 330 mi. The R2 is the lifestyle pickup/SUV bet for buyers who want adventure branding without R1 money; our upcoming Rivian models 2027 hub tracks timing and variants.

How to shop the best EVs to buy this month

Get a battery health report before you wire a deposit on any used EV, especially Leafs and early Bolts. Confirm open recalls by VIN. Price the insurance quote, home charger install and tires, not just the sale price. Compare asking prices with CarGurus, KBB and recent sold data rather than the first Facebook Marketplace number you see. And remember: without the federal credit, a well-bought used Bolt can still beat a lightly discounted new EV on total cash out the door.

This guide will refresh monthly with fresh averages. For November 2026, the short version stays simple: buy a healthy used Bolt if you can, or a new Bolt / EV3 / LEAF if you want a warranty and the newest pack.
