Rivian’s smaller R2 is already its best-selling model, and the cheaper versions are what most shoppers are waiting for. The upcoming Rivian models 2027 buyers can plan around are the R2 Premium and the $44,990 R2 Standard, a lidar-equipped R2 and new hands-off software. The smaller R3 and R3X follow from Rivian’s Georgia plant in late 2028. Here’s what each will cost in the US, when it arrives and how much is confirmed.
The R2 matters because it’s working. Rivian said the R2 outsold both the R1 and its electric delivery van in the third quarter of 2026, when it delivered a record 19,248 vehicles, in its Q3 2026 results. Prices below are US MSRP before destination unless we say otherwise.

What’s confirmed
- The prices and specs above come from Rivian’s R2 page. The Standard is rated to tow 3,500 lb, and other R2s can tow up to 4,400 lb with the Tow Package.
- The R2 is built in Normal, Illinois, where Rivian built a record 19,751 vehicles in Q3. Rivian raised its 2026 delivery guidance to 67,000 to 70,000 vehicles, citing its fourth-quarter outlook.
- Autonomy+ and Universal Hands-Free are available on every R2, and Rivian’s AI-based Rivian Assistant is on both the R1 and R2, the company said.
- Rivian’s limited-time Launch Package is tied to the Performance. Our story on the R2 Launch Package ending explains what changes.
What’s rumored or reported
- Reviews: Rivian said the R2 won Top Gear’s SUV of the Year for 2027. “Customer and media feedback on R2 has been exceptional,” CEO RJ Scaringe said in the Q3 release. That’s the company’s view, so check owner forums and reviews too.
- Standard timing: Rivian only says “2027.” RivianTrackr reported that the entry R2 Standard arrives in summer 2027.
- Earlier pricing: When Rivian first laid out the R2 lineup, it listed a Standard Long Range RWD for the first half of 2027 at $48,490. The current R2 page shows the $44,990 Standard instead, so check the configurator before you order.

Rivian R2 with lidar and Point to Point
Expected US arrival: lidar-equipped R2s are rolling out into 2027, and Point to Point driving reaches all Autonomy+ subscribers in 2027. Expected price: Rivian hasn’t priced the lidar R2 separately. Autonomy+ costs $2,500 or $49.99 a month, per Rivian’s Q3 earnings call. Key specs: a lidar sensor plus Rivian’s in-house autonomy computer.
What’s confirmed
- Point to Point lets the car follow a route from an entered address through city streets, stop lights and highway interchanges, with driver supervision. A limited rollout starts later in 2026 through an invitation-only program, and general release to all Autonomy+ subscribers is expected in 2027, Rivian said in its Q3 results.
- Rivian will share more at its Autonomy and AI Day on Dec. 9, 2026.
What’s rumored or reported
- Retrofits: Lidar won’t be retrofitted to R2s built without it, and Rivian hasn’t given a cut-in date, as we covered in R2 lidar: no date, no retrofit.

Rivian R3X and R3
Expected US arrival: late 2028 at the earliest. Rivian says its Georgia plant will start production in late 2028 with capacity for 300,000 vehicles a year, per its Georgia capacity plan. Expected price: not announced. Key specs: not announced. Automotive World reported a roughly 110-inch wheelbase for the R3.
What’s confirmed
- Rivian showed the R3 and the rally-inspired R3X alongside the R2 in 2024. Both are planned for the Georgia plant, which will also build the R2.
What’s rumored or reported
- Order: CEO RJ Scaringe said the R3X will come first and is “a couple of years away,” according to a Drive interview reported by Car and Driver.
- Powertrains: Car and Driver reported that the R3X will use a high-performance tri-motor setup with wider tires and more ground clearance, while the regular R3 is expected with single- and dual-motor options. It said both ride on a version of the R2 platform with a wheelbase about five inches shorter.
- Timing math: Car and Driver read Scaringe’s comment as production starting sometime in 2028, with the R3X likely sold as a 2029 model.
- Price: Car and Driver estimates the R3 in the mid-$30,000s and the R3X at $45,000 or more. Those are its estimates, not Rivian prices. Automotive World reported that Rivian plans to price the R3 “materially lower” than the R2, a car once expected in the mid- to high-$30,000s.
- Beyond R3: Automotive World also reported that future R4 and R5 models will use a new platform. Rivian hasn’t announced either.

Rivian R2T pickup
Expected US arrival: no date. Expected price: not announced. Key specs: none.
What’s confirmed
- Nothing. Rivian hasn’t shown or announced an R2-based pickup.
What’s rumored or reported
- Rivian refiled trademarks for the R2T and R1X names, which we covered in Rivian R2T trademark refiled. A trademark filing doesn’t mean a vehicle is coming.
Rivian robotaxis with Uber
Expected US arrival: not before 2028. Expected price: not sold to consumers. Key specs: based on the R2.
What’s confirmed
- Rivian and Uber have announced a partnership for autonomous R2 robotaxis. Our report on the Rivian and Uber robotaxi deal covers the numbers and timing.
What’s rumored or reported
- Deployment depends on Rivian’s autonomy roadmap, which it will update at its Dec. 9 Autonomy and AI Day. Rivian listed the Uber partnership among the forward-looking items in its Q3 release, which means the timing could still change.
- For private buyers, the robotaxi program matters mostly because it puts more R2 development money into the same lidar and Point to Point features you’d pay for with Autonomy+.
Which Rivian to wait for
If you want an R2 in 2026, the Performance is the only one you can get now, and the Premium follows late this year at $4,000 less with the same 330-mile range. If price matters most, the $44,990 Standard is a 2027 car with less power and range. Don’t plan around an R3 unless you can wait until at least 2029 for delivery.
