Is the Rivian R2 Launch Package Ending? A New ‘While It’s Here’ Prompt Has Buyers Guessing (Unverified)

An R2 reservation holder spotted a new 'Get Launch Package while it's here' prompt and asked if the $3,700 package is about to end. Rivian hasn't set an end date, and a similar rumor in September didn't come true. Here's what's confirmed and what's just guesswork.

Is the Rivian R2 Launch Package about to go away? Some R2 reservation holders think so. On the evening of October 22, a member of r/RivianR2 posted a screenshot of a new prompt on their Rivian reservation page that reads “Get Launch Package while it’s here.” They asked whether it means the package is ending soon. Rivian hasn’t announced an end date. All we have is one owner’s screenshot and a thread of guesses, so treat this as an unverified rumor.

What’s confirmed

Rivian markets the Launch Package as a limited-time offer. Its Launch Package page calls it a “$3,700 value at no extra cost.” It says the package comes with “every R2 Performance while it’s here” and calls this R2 “our best-value, all-electric R2,” which is “here for a limited time.” The main R2 page says the same: “For a limited time, Launch Package will be included with your R2 Performance.”

According to Rivian’s June 9 delivery announcement, here’s what the package includes and how the rest of the lineup is scheduled (US prices, before taxes and fees):

  • R2 Performance with Launch Package: from $57,990. It has 656 hp, 0-60 mph in as little as 3.6 seconds, up to 330 miles of EPA-estimated range and semi-active suspension.
  • What the package adds: Autonomy+ (a $2,500 value), a Tow Package rated for 4,400 pounds, a special anodized key fob and access to Launch Green paint as a paid option.
  • R2 Premium: from $53,990, due in “late 2026.”
  • R2 Standard: RWD Long Range from $48,490 in early 2027, with another Standard version from $44,990 in summer 2027.

On every trim other than the Launch Package, Autonomy+ comes as a 60-day trial. After that it costs $49.99 a month or $2,500 one time. Rivian’s order-invitation page says invites still go out in rolling batches, based mainly on reservation date and delivery location.

What’s rumored or reported

The Reddit poster says they check their reservation often and had never seen the “while it’s here” prompt before. Commenters didn’t agree on what it means. One replied that it “seems like last call.” Another predicted the Launch Package will only be “on life support” once the R2 Premium opens for orders, and will disappear soon after. Others called it plain marketing pressure. A couple noted that plenty of reservation holders are still waiting for an order invite, which makes an imminent cutoff look less likely.

There are good reasons to doubt the end is near:

  • The wording isn’t new. “While it’s here” is the same phrase Rivian uses on its public Launch Package page, and its R2 page already says the package is for “a limited time.”
  • A similar rumor already fizzled. In mid-September, a Reddit user in Texas said a Rivian sales contact described “last calls” for the Launch Edition. A RivianForums member said a Rivian rep had floated end of September as a possible cutoff. The package is still on sale more than three weeks later.
  • Rivian has made promises to some buyers. In the same RivianForums thread, one member quoted a Rivian email that gave a November to December order window. It said “R2 Performance with Launch Package will remain available for you until it’s your time to order.”

Our credibility read: this is low. It comes down to a single screenshot whose wording matches Rivian’s existing marketing. The idea that the package will end when the Premium trim opens for orders is reasonable, but it’s the community’s theory, not something Rivian has said.

Should you lock in the Rivian R2 Launch Package now?

If you have an order invite and want the quickest R2 with the most features, the Launch Package is the only way to get Autonomy+ included and the only way to get Launch Green paint. Using Rivian’s own prices, a $53,990 R2 Premium plus the $2,500 one-time Autonomy+ purchase comes to $56,490. That’s $1,500 less than the $57,990 Performance with Launch Package, before the Tow Package. The Performance also gets semi-active suspension, which Rivian says is unique to that trim. If you’d rather wait for the Premium or a 2027 Standard model, you give up the included Autonomy+, Tow Package, special fob and Launch Green option. Rivian, though, hasn’t said when the Launch Package goes away, so there’s no confirmed deadline to beat.

Rivian is also still guarding the name of a possible R2 pickup, which we covered in Rivian’s latest R2T trademark filing.
