So what’s coming for Tesla in Q1 2027? Less new hardware than you might hope, and a lot of software and self-driving deadlines. The big dates are mostly predictable: a holiday software update in December, a Q4 delivery report in early January and an earnings call in late January. New Model Y L orders are also quoting Q1 deliveries. The headline promise is FSD v15, which Tesla says is coming “pretty soon,” with the first owner cars joining the Robotaxi network targeted for around Q2. Here’s what’s on the record, what’s only reported, and what Tesla’s past behavior suggests.
Everything below is for US buyers and was checked against Tesla’s own statements or the reports linked in each section. For the full current lineup and prices, see our 2027 Tesla lineup guide.

What’s confirmed
FSD v15 is next, and Tesla gave owners a Q2 target
On Tesla’s Q3 2026 earnings call on Oct. 21, Tesla AI chief Ashok Elluswamy said the Cybercab and the Model Y robotaxis run the same software, and that “pretty soon we’ll be able to release the same software as part of the v15 release to customers.” He added: “We suspect somewhere around Q2 next year is when we can turn on some of the first customer vehicles to be part of the Robotaxi fleet.”
Read that carefully. Q1 is the window where v15 could reach owners as a supervised update. Unsupervised driving in your own car, inside Tesla’s geofenced Robotaxi zones, is a Q2 target at the earliest. Not a Tesla App notes that Elluswamy has described v15 as a jump from about 1 billion to 10 billion neural network parameters. The Verge points out that Tesla has missed self-driving deadlines before, and that permits and insurance are still hurdles.
Elluswamy also said Tesla is building its own AI-based maps and navigation, and that “you’ll see the start and end of trips already use this technology pretty soon as part of the v15 release.”
More Robotaxi cities, longer hours, and Cybercab sales
Tesla said on the call that driverless Cybercab rides will launch in Dallas “next month,” which means November. CFO Vaibhav Taneja said Tesla plans to bring the Cybercab “to some other cities before the end of this year.” Elluswamy said Tesla hopes to unlock 24/7 operation and higher-speed roads by the end of 2026. He expects the main bottleneck to “become regulatory perhaps in Q1, Q2.”
Tesla’s new Robotaxi safety report lists Las Vegas, Jacksonville, Phoenix and San Antonio as “coming soon,” with no dates, Not a Tesla App reported. The same report counted more than 300 Cybercabs in Austin.
On buying one, Tesla’s Lars Moravy said: “we’re trying to get Cybercabs to customers by the end of this year, 2026,” starting small. Elon Musk was clear that most Cybercabs will stay in Tesla’s own fleet and that the “3 and the Y and whatnot” are the cars meant for owners. Our explainer on whether you can buy a Tesla Cybercab covers what that means for regular buyers.
The fixed dates
- Dec. 3, 2026: Tesla’s 2026 annual shareholder meeting is at 3 p.m. Central at Gigafactory Texas, with limited in-person seats. Musk used last year’s meeting to announce a Roadster demo date, so product news is possible, but nothing is promised.
- 2028: Don’t expect a Roadster in Q1. At the Oct. 15 reveal, Musk said “we enter production in 2028,” CNBC reported. No price was announced. More in our Roadster price and release date story.
Demand is ahead of supply, Tesla says
Musk opened the call by saying demand “is exceeding our production by a significant margin.” Taneja said Tesla ended Q3 with its “highest backlog in 4 years,” and that deliveries were “constrained primarily by production.” He also said rising commodity costs and interest rates are adding cost, and that Tesla has “adjusted the vehicle financing programs to partially offset” them. That matches the Model Y APR increase buyers saw in October. According to Taneja, every new car delivered in North America comes with a free month of FSD (Supervised).

What’s rumored or reported
Model Y L deliveries slide into Q1
Tesla launched the six-seat Model Y L in the US in July at $61,990 for the Launch Series. Not a Tesla App reported on Oct. 19 that new US Launch Series orders now show estimated delivery from January to March 2027. Some buyers who ordered early are seeing February to April. Tesla hasn’t explained the delays, and some owners are already taking delivery, so your own estimate may differ.
A holiday update with “Automations”
Tesla hasn’t announced its 2026 holiday update. autoevolution reported on Oct. 13 that two independent developers found an “If This, Then That” style Automation app hidden behind a feature flag in current Tesla software. Tesla launched Automations in China in January. The report says North American owners will “likely” get it with the holiday update. It’s a strong lead, but it’s not confirmed.
Robotaxi fleet growth in Texas
Tesla watcher Nic Cruz Patane posted on Oct. 31 that Tesla now has 1,204 robotaxis registered with the Texas DMV, up from 42 on May 28. Teslarati said the latest batch was 124 Model Ys and no Cybercabs. We haven’t checked the DMV list ourselves. If Tesla keeps adding cars at this pace, Q1 is when more cities should start to feel it. Not a Tesla App also noted that NHTSA is reviewing claims that robotaxis sped through active school zones, which could slow things down.
The cheaper Tesla
There’s still no announced cheaper model, and nothing about one came up on the Q3 call. Treat any talk of a Q1 reveal as speculation.
What Tesla’s past Q1s tell us
These are patterns, not promises. Each one is tied to a dated example.
- The holiday update lands in early December. In 2024 it arrived on Dec. 2, per Electrek. In 2025, version 2025.44.25.1 is dated Dec. 8 on Not a Tesla App’s release notes. Rollouts are staged, so many cars get it later in December or in January.
- Q4 numbers come right after New Year’s. Tesla posted Q4 2025 deliveries on Jan. 2, 2026, and held its Q4 earnings call on Jan. 28, 2026, according to its SEC filing. Expect the same rhythm in 2027, which also means the next round of product timelines.
- Q1 has brought big pricing moves, but only when demand was soft. On Jan. 13, 2023, Tesla cut US Model 3 and Model Y prices by 6% to 20%, and the cheapest Model Y fell from $65,990 to $52,990, Al Jazeera reported, citing Reuters. In February 2024, Tesla cut two Model Y trims by $1,000 through Feb. 29 and said prices would rise again on March 1, Fox Business reported. Today Tesla says it has a production-limited backlog, so a January price cut is far from a given.
- Q1 product refreshes happen. Tesla opened US orders for the refreshed Model Y Launch Series in late January 2025 at $59,990, with deliveries starting in March, CNBC reported. There’s no sign of a similar refresh for Q1 2027.
Should you buy a Tesla now or wait?
| If you… | Our take |
|---|---|
| Want a Model 3 or Model Y soon | Buy when the deal works for you. Tesla says demand beats supply and financing has already gotten pricier. Waiting for a January cut is a gamble. |
| Want the Model Y L | Order now if you’re sure. New orders are already quoting January to March. |
| Are buying mainly for unsupervised FSD | Don’t buy on that promise alone. Tesla’s own target for the first owner cars is around Q2, and only inside Robotaxi zones. |
| Want a Cybercab or Roadster | Wait. Cybercab sales start small and the Roadster is a 2028 car. |
| Already own a Tesla | Nothing to do. The holiday update and v15 arrive over the air. |
FAQ
When is Tesla’s Q4 2026 earnings call?
Tesla hasn’t set it yet. Last year’s Q4 call was on Jan. 28, 2026, and the delivery report came on Jan. 2, so late January 2027 is the best guess.
When will FSD v15 come out?
Tesla only says “pretty soon.” Its target for the first owner cars driving unsupervised in the Robotaxi network is around Q2 2027.
When is the Tesla holiday update 2026?
It isn’t announced. The last two holiday updates started on Dec. 2, 2024, and Dec. 8, 2025, so early to mid-December is likely.
Will Tesla cut prices in January 2027?
There’s no sign of it. Tesla made big January cuts in 2023, but now says demand is ahead of production and has already raised financing rates.
Can I buy a Tesla Cybercab in Q1 2027?
Maybe in small numbers. Tesla wants the first customer Cybercabs out by the end of 2026, but most will stay in Tesla’s own fleet.
Is the Tesla Roadster coming in 2027?
No. Musk said production starts in 2028.
