The electric BMW X5 M price hasn’t been announced, and neither has the car. A camouflaged prototype is testing near the Nürburgring, as we showed in our electric X5 M leaked-images story, and reports point to about 900 hp and a South Carolina build. Here’s what it’s likely to cost in the US, what it might pack and when it could land. Every estimate below is labeled as ours, built from real BMW prices and BMW M’s past launch timing.
What’s confirmed
BMW hasn’t confirmed an electric X5 M. What it has confirmed is the new X5 family. BMW of North America’s June 30 release lists the iX5 60 xDrive at $79,800 before destination, alongside the gas X5 40 at $69,800 and the X5 50e plug-in hybrid at $77,500, and says a V8 M Performance model will follow later in 2027. The X5 is built at Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina.
For reference, the outgoing gas X5 M Competition starts at $128,375, per BMWBlog. When that generation launched for 2020, BMW priced the X5 M Competition at $114,100 plus destination.
What’s rumored or reported
Carscoops, BMWBlog and Motor.es all report around 900 hp from four motors, one per wheel. Motor.es also reports a 141-kWh net battery and close to 800 km (about 500 miles) of range, without naming the test cycle. BMWBlog says production will reportedly start at Spartanburg in April 2028, with the V8 X5 M following in December 2028.

Expected electric BMW X5 M price in the US
Three numbers frame this. The gas X5 M Competition costs $128,375 today, up about 12.5% from its 2020 launch price. BMW’s priciest electric SUV today, the iX M70, starts at $111,500, per Edmunds. And the 1,139-hp Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric, one of the rivals Carscoops names, starts at $163,000. The electric X5 M has to sit above the iX M70 and likely won’t undercut the gas X5 M.
| Model | US price | Status |
|---|---|---|
| iX5 60 xDrive | $79,800 | Official (BMW NA) |
| Gas X5 M Competition (current) | $128,375 | Listed (BMWBlog) |
| Electric X5 M (launch trim) | $130,000 to $145,000 | usonwheels estimate |
| Next gas X5 M Competition | $132,000 to $142,000 | usonwheels estimate |
We expect BMW to launch the electric model in a single, well-equipped trim, as it does with the current X5 M. Destination, options and any tariff changes would come on top.
Expected specs
- Power: about 900 hp from four motors (reported by Carscoops, BMWBlog and Motor.es). Some headlines say 1,000 hp, but the stories themselves say about 900.
- Battery: 141 kWh net (reported by Motor.es only).
- Range: if the roughly 800 km figure is on the European WLTP cycle, an EPA rating would likely land around 400 to 450 miles (usonwheels estimate, since EPA numbers usually come in lower).
- Design: a much bigger kidney grille, active cooling flaps, a lower stance and a large roof spoiler (visible in the spy photos).
- Build: Spartanburg, South Carolina (reported by BMWBlog; every X5 so far has been built there).
Expected US arrival
BMW M usually reveals its X models a few months before sales start. The current X5 M was revealed on October 1, 2019, with US market launch in spring 2020.
Apply that to the reported April 2028 production start and you get a reveal in late 2027 or early 2028, with US deliveries in mid-to-late 2028, probably as a 2029 model. The gas X5 M would follow around early 2029. These are usonwheels estimates. BMW hasn’t given any dates.

How we estimated this
We started with the current X5 M Competition’s US price and the price change over its generation, then checked the result against the iX M70 and the Cayenne Turbo Electric. Timing comes from the 2019 X5 M reveal and BMWBlog’s reported production dates. BMW could price it more aggressively or rename it, so treat these figures as a guide until BMW announces the car.
