GM’s EV news for the next year is less about brand-new nameplates and more about cheaper batteries, native Tesla-style charging ports and a hand-built Cadillac. The upcoming Chevy and GM EVs 2027 buyers will see include a low-priced Bolt with a short shelf life, a carried-over Equinox EV, a 2027 Escalade IQ with faster home charging and a fourth-generation EV platform that GM says will launch “very shortly.” Here’s what’s confirmed for US buyers, what it costs and what’s still only reported.
One change applies to almost everything below: all GM EVs switch from the CCS1 charging port to a native NACS port for the 2027 model year, InsideEVs reported, so you won’t need an adapter at Tesla Superchargers. Prices are US MSRP; we note when destination is included.

2027 Chevrolet Bolt
Expected US arrival: on sale now, but not for long. Production of the 2027 Bolt is expected to end about a year and a half after its January 2026 launch, TechCrunch reported, and the gas Equinox moves into its Kansas plant in mid-2027. Expected price: $28,995 including destination, according to Chevrolet, which calls it the most affordable EV in America. Key specs: 262 miles of EPA-estimated range, DC fast charging at up to 150 kW and a native NACS port, per chevrolet.com.
What’s confirmed
- GM told TechCrunch the Bolt was always meant to be “a limited run model.” The next-generation Buick compact SUV moves into the same Fairfax, Kansas, plant from 2028.
- The Bolt launched at $29,990 with destination, TechCrunch reported, and Chevrolet has since lowered the delivered starting price to $28,995.
What’s rumored or reported
- A replacement: GM President Mark Reuss has talked about a family of affordable EVs around $30,000, InsideEVs reported. GM has promised future investment in Fairfax for its next affordable EVs but hasn’t said when, TechCrunch noted.
- A reprieve: TechCrunch also raised whether GM could extend the Bolt if sales beat expectations. GM hasn’t said it will.
2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV
Expected US arrival: on sale now. Expected price: $34,995 for the LT1 FWD, plus an $1,800 destination fee reported by Electrek. Key specs: 319 miles of EPA-estimated range with FWD and 307 miles with AWD, per Chevrolet, plus the switch to NACS.
What’s confirmed
- The base price is unchanged from the previous year, and the range is too. Our 2027 Chevy Equinox EV guide has the full trim walk.
What’s rumored or reported
- Competition: Electrek pointed out that the 2027 Kia EV3 now edges the Equinox EV on delivered price at a similar range. The Equinox stays cheaper if you want AWD, by Electrek’s numbers.

2027 and 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ
Expected US arrival: the 2027 Escalade IQ is the next model year, and the 2028 model gets the bigger tech update. Expected price: Cadillac hasn’t posted 2027 pricing. The 2026 model starts at $127,405 on cadillac.com. Key specs: a Cadillac-estimated 465 miles of range, up to 750 hp and 785 lb-ft with Velocity Max, and 0-60 mph in 4.7 seconds, according to Cadillac.
What’s confirmed
- 2027 changes: a native NACS port and a 19.2-kW onboard charger on every trim, up from 11.5 kW on the 2026 Luxury and Sport, InsideEVs reported.
- Curated by Cadillac: a hand-built customization program with more than 160 exterior colors and up to 44 interior colors. The package costs $54,995 on top of the vehicle’s MSRP, and deliveries are expected in the second half of 2027. Our 2027 Cadillac Escalade IQ guide does the math.
- 2028 model: GM’s new central-computer electrical architecture “hits streets in the 2028 Cadillac Escalade IQ,” along with GM’s first eyes-off driving system, InsideEVs reported from GM’s Oct. 21 event. Mary Barra’s Q3 letter to shareholders points to the same 2028 timing.
What’s rumored or reported
- 2027 price: Cadillac’s site hadn’t posted 2027 MSRP when we checked, so treat any 2027 figure you see elsewhere as unconfirmed until Cadillac publishes it.
- Our 2026 Escalade IQ review covers how the current SUV drives.

GM fourth-generation EVs
Expected US arrival: no firm date. GM President Mark Reuss said the launch would happen “very shortly,” InsideEVs reported. Expected price: not announced. Key specs: GM says the platform allows 15% less vehicle mass, 20% better efficiency, 20% less battery capacity for equal or better range and 25% better aerodynamics.
What’s confirmed
- The platform uses lithium manganese-rich (LMR) prismatic cells. GM says they’re cheaper than high-nickel cells and 33% more energy-dense than LFP, per its fourth-gen platform announcement.
- Drive units use 40% fewer parts, and a single central computer cuts wiring by 30%.
- A GM spokesperson told InsideEVs the first models will be in GM’s “highest-volume” segments, meaning crossover SUVs.
- The new central computer offers 40 times more processing power and 50% faster cellular connectivity than current GM EVs, InsideEVs reported. It will also go into GM’s gas pickups and three-row SUVs.
- “When you talk about equivalent or more range for 20% less battery… you can extrapolate what that means for the value proposition,” GM global EV architecture director Zach Walker told InsideEVs.
What’s rumored or reported
- Which models: GM hasn’t named a single nameplate. Likely candidates would be Chevrolet and Buick crossovers, but that’s our inference from the “highest-volume” comment, not a GM statement.
Next-generation GM electric pickups
Expected US arrival: on hold. Expected price: not announced. Key specs: none.
What’s confirmed
- GM says it “has not cancelled any electric trucks.”
What’s rumored or reported
- GM suspended its planned refresh of the full-size electric pickups indefinitely, according to Crain’s Detroit Business as reported by Electrek.
- GM has shown a smaller off-road idea, covered in our story on the Hummer X EV concept. It’s a concept, not a production plan.
2027 Cadillac Optiq and Vistiq
Expected US arrival: 2027 models are arriving now. Expected price: the 2027 Optiq starts at $52,695 including destination and the Optiq-V at $69,295, EV.com reported from Cadillac’s configurator. Key specs: carried over, apart from charging.
What’s confirmed
- Both switch to native NACS ports for 2027, part of GM’s lineup-wide change.
What’s rumored or reported
- GM-Trucks.com reported the full list of 2027 Optiq and Vistiq changes, including V-Series updates. Cadillac hasn’t issued a 2027 Vistiq price release.
How to read GM’s 2027 EV plans
If you want a cheap GM EV, the Bolt is the bargain, but it ends production around mid-2027, so don’t wait too long. If you want range for the money, the Equinox EV is still the better all-rounder. Everything genuinely new from GM, including the LMR crossovers and eyes-off Escalade IQ, points to 2028. Compare all the low-cost options in our best affordable electric cars in the US guide.
