Rivian R2 Forest Green VINs Are Reportedly Arriving After a 9-Week Wait. Here’s What Owners Are Seeing

After weeks in which Forest Green R2 orders lagged every other color, owners say VINs started appearing Oct. 22 and some now have early-November delivery dates. Rivian hasn't explained the delay.

For weeks, Rivian R2 Forest Green buyers watched other colors get VINs and delivery dates while their own orders sat still. That may finally be changing. On Oct. 22, several owners who ordered in August said VINs had turned up on their orders, and a few now have pickup dates in early November. Rivian still hasn’t said why Forest Green ran so far behind the rest of the R2 lineup. Most of what follows comes from owners and an owner-run tracker, not from Rivian.

What’s confirmed

Rivian opened Forest Green to all R2 buyers on Sept. 8, together with the Coastal Cloud Signature interior. The R2 Performance with the Launch Package, the only R2 you can order right now, starts at $57,990.

Rivian has warned buyers that some colors take longer. Its R2 order-invitation support page quotes 8 to 12 weeks from order confirmation for Forest Green, Borealis and Coastal Cloud, and 6 to 10 weeks for Esker Silver. Most other builds are quoted at 4 to 8 weeks.

Rivian hasn’t put out a statement, service notice or update about Forest Green production. The only comment we found was relayed secondhand (see below).

What’s rumored or reported about Rivian R2 Forest Green orders

Owner data first showed the gap. Roamer is a tracker that pulls order status from owners’ linked Rivian accounts. On Oct. 21, EV (eletric-vehicles.com) reported that 239 of the 278 Forest Green R2s on Roamer, or 86%, still had no VIN. Only 17 had been delivered, while Catalina Cove and Launch Green were each about 65% delivered. That same day, RivianTrackr posted on X that he’d asked Rivian about delays and that “the official statement from Rivian is that there’s nothing to report on R2 in Forest Green.” He didn’t publish the email.

A day later, things started to move. A Forest Green delays thread on RivianForums has been running since Oct. 6. Around 9 a.m. PT on Oct. 22, the member who started it said he’d found a VIN in his order page’s source code after 65 days. Roamer had listed his order as the longest R2 wait it was tracking. Within half an hour, two more Forest Green buyers posted VINs, including one who ordered Aug. 27. Later that day another member posted a Nov. 2 delivery date, about 11 weeks after ordering. A buyer in North Carolina says pickup is Nov. 4. On X, an Orlando buyer who ordered on Sept. 4 posted a new VIN and a Nov. 7 delivery.

Roamer’s live R2 page shows the same trend. When we checked around 8 a.m. ET on Oct. 23, it listed 292 Forest Green orders: 237 still waiting, 37 with a VIN and 18 delivered. That’s 15 more VINs than on Oct. 21. Five of the 10 highest R2 VINs on the page were Forest Green. Forest Green is still well behind, though. Its median order-to-VIN wait is listed as “38+ days,” against 28 to 29 days for Catalina Cove and Launch Green. It makes up only 4 of the 135 deliveries booked for the week of Oct. 26 and 7 of the 66 booked for the week of Nov. 2.

Nobody outside Rivian knows what caused the slowdown. Forum members have floated a paint-supply or paint-quality problem, and one pointed to Esker Silver, which they said was held up at launch for paint reasons. Others think Rivian is simply batching Forest Green builds. RJ Scaringe has said the R2 ramp is limited by its slowest-ramping suppliers, but he didn’t say anything specific about Forest Green. The thread’s starter also wrote that “higher ups” had told him to expect movement “within 2 weeks.” We couldn’t confirm that.

How much weight should you give this? The VIN and delivery-date reports come from individual buyers. They’re consistent with each other, but they’re unverified. Roamer only counts owners who link their accounts, not every R2 Rivian builds. Still, the earliest Forest Green orders are now getting VINs inside Rivian’s 12-week window. The Aug. 18 orders reach 12 weeks around Nov. 10.

Have a Forest Green R2 on order? What to know

  • Count from your order confirmation date. Rivian’s 8-to-12-week quote for Forest Green starts there, not at your reservation date.
  • Owners say VINs are showing up in the order page’s code before the Rivian app or account page displays them. If yours hasn’t appeared yet, give it a few days before calling Rivian.
  • If you’re about to order and need an R2 by a set date, a 4-to-8-week color is the safer bet for now.
  • Ask your Rivian guide for any delivery estimate in writing, so you have a record if the date moves.
